As the holiday season fades, along with 2011, we thought it would be fitting to do a time-lapse as the candles fade away.

As the first official birthday since the new site has been up, I figured Id throw something quick up here.  Its been an amazing year, and my hope for more of the same in the next 365 days. There’s been a lot brewing around here between our NFL work, event work, and everything else.  Here’s something a little off the beat and path that we did at the beginning of this month.  Its an engagement video from an engagement shoot we did in central park with Jenna and Rafi who will be getting married on March 25, 2011.  Enjoy!!

Gigabytes of the Mind

Sep 7, 2011

This post probably has less to do with filmmaking and more to do with the inner tech-geek within us all. Here at Expressions we go through hard drives like air. We often get asked how much space the weddings and other events we shoot take up on our hard drives. The answer is anywhere from approximately 110GB – 250GB of raw video files. Commercially, 2TB drives are the most cost effective solution, which means that after music and render files we can’t fit more than 8 events or so on a drive.

Here was the random thought I came up with today… How many gigabytes of data do we hold in our mind? A wedding is a 6 – 12 hour event (for us at least). The mind of the camera needs an 1/8th of a hard drive to store all that data in HD. But we see in a much greater field of view than a camera lens. We go through our days going from place to place, and while we may forget many if not most of our interactions, how many of life’s moments can we recall in great data – in full HD, 2K, or dare I say beautiful RED RAW 4k.

The point is while we view our computers as great powerful machines, when you put things into perspective, the human mind is a far more powerful tool than any hard drive money can be. Feel free to ponder :)

This blog is more or less dedicated to work that I do, but I had an amazing experience last week that I wanted to share with everybody down in Hollywood Studios at Disney World. I have some upcoming interviews and wanted to test out some lighting schemes, and wanted to chronicle the experience, since we weren’t allowed to use video cameras, so this was the perfect opportunity. Im not going to write too much about the show because it’s described blow-by-blow in the video. Needless to say I won my preliminary show, it was an amazing time and I want to thank my wife, Rebecca, for taking pictures, and both her and my son, Benny, for sitting through two hours of AI when while Benny was supposed to be enjoying the last day of his birthday trip. Here’s the video. There are more still shots inside the post so be show to click on “read more”

Golf for a Cause

Aug 5, 2011

Wow. Its been six weeks. So the obvious assumption would be that we haven’t been doing anything, but its exactly the opposite. Expressions Cinema just made it through its first wedding season and with Malka Media now alive and well – our sports marketing group – a lot has been going on around here. This week we got our second chance at shooting the Alan T Brown annual Celebrity Golf & Tennis Tournament. Bruce Beck, Sam Rosen, Ken Daneyko, Jeremy Schaap were all on hand – see the picture below :) . It was a long day and this video does a pretty good job of highlighting everything from morning till night – except the rain…

Ok so this is nothing more than a quick clip from a wedding I shot yesterday. We were in Brooklyn on Ocean Parkway and decided to play in traffic a little bit with the Steadicam and it came out really well. This clip is straight out of the camera, no color correction, editing or anything else. Enjoy!

This video has been completed for a little while now but we had to go back and forth with a lot of the sponsorship details so had to hold off on showing this to the world. We got to spend the day with Anthony Fasano, Josh Freeman, Brady Quinn, Miles Austin, Sean O’hara, Ricky Williams, and about 25 other active NFL players as the Anthony Fasano Foundation set out on its annual mission of raising money for children with autism. This production was put together for us by Louis Krubich Productions and had us shooting in a helicopter (awesome) and golf cart, using our crane, steadicam and more. It was pretty elaborate and the final piece came out pretty nicely. enjoy!

Had the pleasure of shooting this wedding on June 5 at Shaareh Zion in Brooklyn, NY. The bride and groom wrote each other notes the day before the wedding and read them to each other for the video. The funny part as you can see is Ashley wrote hers on a piece of papyrus type paper and David – well he used the notes section of his iPad. Really cool young couple, and an absolutely kickin (although very long) party. Also the first time I had baby lamb chops on a job – yum. Enjoy their coming soon trailer.

Got to shoot a really cool wedding last week at Temple Emanuel in Closter, NJ. For this who have not been – it’s a really nice venue with outdoor courtyards tucked away in the woods of North Jersey. Of course one of the nicest parts of the venue is the beautiful stained glass dome in the main sanctuary featured in this video.

Enjoy the coming soon trailer and see you at the highlight!!!
