As the holiday season fades, along with 2011, we thought it would be fitting to do a time-lapse as the candles fade away.

We used our amazing Kessler motion-control system. This project called for the oracle controller, and cineslider mounted to the K-pod.

First, here was the basic setup. The K-pod is high so we used some apple boxes to prop up the table.

Then, there were two calculations that needed to be made. We wanted the oracle to stop the motion half way through the video so we could reveal the text. We needed to know how long the candle would take to burn and how long the motion took so we could double the time of the “move” in the oracle.

This was our final setup with three point lighting – we used all LEDs for this (mostly for convenience)

Finally the oracle counting down the 45 minute lapse as the candles burn

In post, we used Lightroom to process the RAW files. LR Timelapse helped out in making sure the gradual change in color temperature and exposure was smoothed out. Finally, we used After Effects for the text and final processing.
