Sport Smart. If you don’t know by now, you should.

So for those who recently started following this blog, a little bit of background. In January of 2009, I went back to NYU to get a masters degree in sport business (yes that means I am highly educated in sports). The idea was to get a strong background in sports business and then use my media and production background to leverage a career in sports media. What I could have never bargained for was the opportunity to lay the groundwork, shoot, produce and edit Be Your Own Fan TV, season 1.
To make a long story short, the show had me traveling around the country, meeting the cream of the crop in sports business – Jerry Reinsdorf, Joe Maddon, Kin Ng, Joel Sherman, and the list goes on. However, at the end of the day it wasn’t my show. The show was being funded and driven by The Goldklang Group – a conglomerated baseball ownership group (simple English – they owned 4 minor league baseball teams). I didn’t have creative control, not budget control – so my hands were tied on a lot of things.
Enter Sport Smart. This is my love child. Along with host and script co-writer Josh Hyman and Director of Photography Greg Lassik, I have created a show that gets under the fingernails of sports business while maintaining a light and funny presence. In our pilot, we travel to the New Meadowlands for a private tour with Jets head of stadium development Thad Sheely. We also sit down with NYU professor and former sports agent Bob Boland (guess how I hooked that up?!?!)
The show is currently in the editing room and we plan on pitching it to all the major RSN’s in the upcoming months. Readers of this lovely blog will hae an early opportunity to screen the pilot as well as soon as its done. In the meantime we made this pilot preview a few months back, so take a look and enjoy!!!
