First of all I suck as a blogger. I don’t even want to think about how long its been, BUT today marks a very interesting day in video history for me. I’ve been fortunate enough to shoot with many great cinematographers on many projects in the past. Today however, I got the opportunity to watch a film edited by my Expressions partner in crime Brian Berkowitz. With this 4-year degree from SVA in editing I shouldn’t be too surprised that it came out great, but I have ALWAYS been the one to edit my films in the past. The Five Towns 5K was a unique event in that Brian had shot the stills at the event, so I was the only shooter at the event, so everything you see was shot by me. Without any further ado, a Brian Berkowitz edit…..

A few weeks ago we posted the coming soon trailer for Simmy & Levi’s wedding which took place at Ateres Avrohom in Brooklyn, NY. Every cinematographer may have a different spin on how they edit, but our coming soon trailer’s possess two very unique characteristics that highlight films do not…

First of all, we deliver our highlight films within a week of your event. This gives you a nice opportunity to get a feel for what your final feature will look like. Secondly, a coming soon trailer from us is just like the coming soon trailer you would see for your favorite movie. It doesn’t give away too much. Typically for a Jewish wedding, you will see very little if any of the ceremony and usually NO footage from the reception. Your initial reaction should be, “Wow, I want to see more”, just as if you were to see the trailer for X-Men or Transformers 3 (or maybe that’s just me).

That’s all for this little rant, and hopefully you can be better informed as you pick the film package for your event or watch some of our films. Meanwhile enjoy this highlight film from Simy + Levi’s wedding and if you want to see our original post with the coming soon trailer click here.

I haven’t posted in a while, things have gotten really crazy around here, but I am VERY committed to this blog so we forge on. I had a chance to shoot this fashion show at the Javits Center for Metro Multimedia a few months back. This is a quick highlight piece put together for the client. We’re heading back out with Metro next Thursday for another trade show so stay tuned and enjoy the video.

While I have been in video production for a number of years now, it is nice to look back fondly on the first “transitional” moment of what I would call my current day film making. I came primarily from an HDV background as well as a production and corporate background. There are two major decisions that came within a few months of each other. One was to abandon the HDV format for HDSLR (thank the lord I did), and the second was to start shooting events.

With about 5 years of event experience as a DJ, coupled with my production background, the transition was fairly smooth. The advent of HDSLR at events however took some getting used to. However, I had much to learn about audio capture, stabilization equipment, etc. etc. This was the first Bat Mitzvah we shot last year. You won’t see our usual Steadicam shots, dolly shots or anything like that – but a nice foundation for what we have developed into our HDSLR story telling style. ENJOY!

So for those who recently started following this blog, a little bit of background. In January of 2009, I went back to NYU to get a masters degree in sport business (yes that means I am highly educated in sports). The idea was to get a strong background in sports business and then use my media and production background to leverage a career in sports media. What I could have never bargained for was the opportunity to lay the groundwork, shoot, produce and edit Be Your Own Fan TV, season 1.

To make a long story short, the show had me traveling around the country, meeting the cream of the crop in sports business – Jerry Reinsdorf, Joe Maddon, Kin Ng, Joel Sherman, and the list goes on. However, at the end of the day it wasn’t my show. The show was being funded and driven by The Goldklang Group – a conglomerated baseball ownership group (simple English – they owned 4 minor league baseball teams). I didn’t have creative control, not budget control – so my hands were tied on a lot of things.

Enter Sport Smart. This is my love child. Along with host and script co-writer Josh Hyman and Director of Photography Greg Lassik, I have created a show that gets under the fingernails of sports business while maintaining a light and funny presence. In our pilot, we travel to the New Meadowlands for a private tour with Jets head of stadium development Thad Sheely. We also sit down with NYU professor and former sports agent Bob Boland (guess how I hooked that up?!?!)

The show is currently in the editing room and we plan on pitching it to all the major RSN’s in the upcoming months. Readers of this lovely blog will hae an early opportunity to screen the pilot as well as soon as its done. In the meantime we made this pilot preview a few months back, so take a look and enjoy!!!

On Valentine’s Day weekend I had the opportunity to help out NY Minute Dating capture their biggest event of the year. The company hosts multiple events every week in the New York area including various speed dating and singles events. A big problem facing many businesses, especially in the dating arena, is the perceived legitimacy of the business.

Enter online promo video. In a vastly competitive and skeptical market (would you necessarily trust an online speed dating company???) having a promotional video where potential customers can see over 800 singles at one of your events helps immensely.

This event was also run in conjunction with Groupon. Tickets were sold two for one on their site which brought in an entirely new crowd to NY Minute’s client pool. All in all this was a great event and we threw together this highlight package for the NY Minute homepage.

Welcome to the site. If you’re even reading this I thank you and hope you’ll follow along the journey. 2011 is a transitional year for me and a very important one in my cinema career. I have a lot going on which I plan on posting throughout the next couple weeks and i hope you enjoy.

For now I think it’s fitting to show some pictures for the photo shoot that made this site and a little BTS video from the shoot. A huge thanks to Brian Berkowitz from Expressions for photographing me.
